The 2018 Psycon International Conference offers a unique platform for the dissemination of research that probes the interaction between the terrains of psychology and the built environment. Following on from two successful workshops organised by the Psycon initiative, the Psycon 2018 International Conference offers the chance for a sustained engagement with the conference theme: ‘Psychology & Sustainable Construction’: Searching the gap between psychology and construction for a sustainable built environment'.
Submission Guidelines
All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference.
Full papers will be accepted that explore the conference theme: 'Psychology & Sustainable Construction: Searching the gap between psychology and construction for a sustainable built environment'.
There are four sub-themes which are intended to guide researchers toward the broad areas the conference wishes to explore rather than provide a rigid and exclusive list of permissible topics. Submissions are welcome not only from the disciplines of psychology, architecture and the built environment but from academics that explore these themes from others disciplines and across and in between disciplines.

1) Human Agency: Building and Behaviour
- Understanding the impact of basic behavioural built environments
- Behavioural strategies in the development and use of built facilities
- Creating an ergonomic environment: meeting users’ requirements in building facilities
- Fit for human residence: Confronting dystopian built environments
- Building for people and their needs: what people like and dislike
- Behavioural economics
2) A Room with a View: Landscape and Perception
- Caught between Fear and Desire: The psychology of green belts and development.
- Landscapes and society: perceptions of space and landscape.
- The cost of sustainability in developing the environment
- Sprouting prefabs: perceptions of prefabs as barriers to the acceptability and growth of offsite production
3) Ergonomics
- Mindcrafts: Impacts of technology on built facilities usage
- The dynamism and sustainability of learning spaces
- The impacts of interior design on user need
4) Minding the gap: Interdisciplinary Approaches
- A multi-disciplinary approach to developing the built environment research
- The psychologist in construction
- Environmental psychology
- Learning from and with other disciplines: Education in the Built Environment
- Thinking space: developing theoretical and critical analysis in Built Environment Educational programmes
The process for acceptance of papers and the relevant dates are as follows:
All submission will be peer reviewed by members of the Psycon Scientific Committee in a two-stage process. The initial stage will be the submission of a 200 word abstract
The deadline for Submission of Abstracts for review has been extended to the 21st of May 2018. Abstracts will go through the initial peer review process and authors will be notified of the decision regarding acceptance. Successful candidates will then be asked to submit a full paper for review to be submitted by the 3rd of August 2018. A final decision of the paper submission will take place on 14th September 2018 and include any guidance on any revisions. Final submission of papers will be 19th October 2018. Successful papers will be published in a book of proceedings.
The deadline for submission of abstracts for Posters will be June 11th, 2018.
