E-learning has evolved rapidly in the past decade, especially with the move towards an open education. Within the e-learning environment video-based lectures are the most effective learning objects to deliver educational content. This resulted in a massive repository of an encoded educational content within video-based lectures. Although using video based lectures is a merit to the e-learning environment, yet it has created many challenges to the learners. These challenges include the ability to search within the video file, retrieving different learning attributes from video content, indexing and matching video files to specific features describing the video content. Such features that can describe the content include, but not limited to, Identifying the topics, determining the educational level, extracting objects that are present, identify the teaching style within the video lecture, etc.
Providing content-aware video files is a desirable feature for learners wishing to customize their educational experience. Such customization, however, requires the collaboration of many techniques such as: information extraction, analysis, and high-performance processing of video content. We use this opportunity to organize a collaborative session to call out active researchers to share their recent and valuable research findings in this exciting and challenging field.
Submission Guidelines
All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. The following paper categories are welcome:
- Regular papers (6 pages) and short papers (4 pages) describing original and unpublished research results pertaining to the topics of the workshop. Papers should follow the IEEE two-column template instructions. Submissions should include the title, author(s), affiliation(s), e-mail address(es), postal address(es), keywords, and abstract on the first page. Papers will be selected based on their originality, timeliness, significance, relevance, and clarity of presentation. Paper submission implies the intent of at least one of the authors to register and present the paper, if accepted. Best Paper Award: IEEE MIPR will be presenting a Best Paper award and a Best Student Paper award. The best paper will be selected by separate committee and will be the one that reports the most novel and promising research work that has a high potential impact in the real world. Also, selected submissions will be invited to submit an extended version of their papers to journal special issues.
