NERCCS 2018: The First Northeast Regional Conference on Complex Systems aims to establish a venue of interdisciplinary scholarly exchange for complex systems researchers in the Northeast U.S. region to share their research outcomes through presentations and post-conference online publications, network with their peers in the region, and promote inter-campus collaboration and the growth of the research community.
NERCCS will particularly focus on facilitating the professional growth of early career faculty, postdocs, and students in the region who have only limited resources but will likely play a leading role in the field of complex systems science and engineering in the coming years.
The conference will be held in the Innovative Technologies Complex at Binghamton University, which is within driving distance from all major urban areas in the U.S. Northeast region.
Call for Papers
We call for papers for oral and poster presentations on a wide variety of complex systems research. Relevant topics include (but are not limited to):
Theoretical foundations of complex systems
Nonlinear dynamics and chaos
Systems theory, information theory, and systems science
Game theory, decision theory, and socio-economical applications
Self-organization, pattern formation, and collective behavior
Structure and dynamics of complex networks
Sustainability and adaptability of complex systems
Bio-inspired systems, machine learning, and evolutionary computation
Data-driven approaches to complex systems
Applications to the humanities, art, and literature
Historical and philosophical aspects of complex systems
Complex systems and education
Submissions should be made as a single PDF file via EasyChair, in either extended abstract format (1 page) or full paper format (8 pages max.).

Best Student Paper / Best Poster Awards: NERCCS 2018 will offer the Best Student Paper and Best Poster Awards. The winners will be selected from accepted student papers and posters by the judge panel, which will be recognized with a certificate at the conference. For the Best Student Paper Award, the student must be the first author of the submitted paper. To qualify for the Best Student Paper award, add "Student:" to the beginning of the title when you enter the title information in EasyChair.
Submissions will be evaluated and selected through rigorous peer review processes. The expected number of accepted presentations is about 45 (15~25 oral presentations and 20~30 poster presentations, depending on logistic constraints).
Important Dates:
Submission deadline: | January 15, 2018 |
Notification to authors: | March 12, 2018 |
Camera-ready deadline: | March 30, 2018 |
