The NCCR2018 is pleased to announce a call for papers to encourage the sharing of ground breaking, original works and collaborative efforts amongst top scholars in the rapidly evolving consumer research field. Current movement within consumer markets is both extraordinary and unprecedented. We continue to see one industry after another endure disruption, followed by technological changes, digitalisation, sustainability and other society-level megatrends. New start-ups are blooming; therefore, established companies need to reconsider their value chains and all business strategies that are influenced by disruptive changes.
In this age of disruption, both consumer and customer orientation are more important than ever; they are a matter of life and death for all companies. Consumers can no longer be viewed only as users of products and services. They are increasingly active innovators and co-partners, whose voices and preferences must be carefully considered.
For consumer researchers, several interesting research avenues are emerging. Examples include the following:
- What is the extent to which the consumer is willing to act as a business partner to co-create value with the company?
- How are consumers’ actions generating market change?
- How are consumers adapting to market changes?
- What kinds of agencies and roles are consumers adopting in emerging market situations?
Therefore, it is our pleasure to welcome scholars from various disciplines, including business, marketing, communication, household studies, user innovation, sociology and future studies—to name a few—to present and discuss their contemporary research on consumers, with a special emphasis on markets in transition.
Submission Guidelines
We welcome submissions in the following categories: competitive papers, working papers and alternative modes of investigation and expression. In addition, we are offering a special PhD workshop for doctoral candidates. We encourage anyone interested in organising a special session or roundtable to contact us directly. Please note that the deadline for all submissions is January 15, 2018.
Competitive Papers - We welcome competitive papers that are original and have not been accepted for publication prior to the submission deadline. The maximum length for a competitive paper is seven pages, including the title, an abstract of 150 words, references and tables and figures. Track chairs: Hanna Leipämaa-Leskinen (hanna.leipamaa-leskinen@uva.fi) and Henna Syrjälä (henna.syrjala@uva.fi), University of Vaasa
Working Papers - We welcome submissions that are still works-in-progress. This is an excellent opportunity to present ideas and receive feedback from fellow researchers while fostering collaboration between consumer researchers from different disciplines and countries. Working papers must be no more than 800 words in length, excluding the abstract (150 words) and references, and should present the state-of-the-art aspects of the research. Track chairs: Katarina Hellén (katarina.hellen@uva.fi) and Ari Huuhka (ari.huuhka@uva.fi), University of Vaasa
Alternative Modes of Investigation and Expression - Alternative modes of investigation and expression, such as videos, drama, artwork and creative techniques, are most welcome at the NCCR conference. The length of the submission should be a maximum of 20 minutes. An abstract of 150 words should present the main idea of the work, followed by an extended abstract of 800 words, which should present either the conceptual or methodological background of the work. Please include a link to where reviewers can see your work (video, photo gallery, etc.). Track chairs: Catharina von Koskull (catharina.von.koskull@uva.fi) and Minna-Maarit Jaskari (minna-maarit.jaskari@uva.fi), University of Vaasa
PhD Workshop: Tuesday June 12 - We have organised a special workshop for Tuesday June 12 for doctoral candidates. We welcome candidates who are studying consumers from various disciplines to share their ideas and improve their research setting. The PhD workshop is suitable for doctoral candidates in various phases of their research. Please submit your 10-page research plan. Each plan will be reviewed and discussed after its presentation. The workshop session will be followed by a ‘How to publish your work’ session, which will include further assistance with preparing your article for publication. Track chair: Hannele Kauppinen-Räisänen (hannele.kauppinen-raisanen@uva.fi), University of Vaasa
Papers submitted to either competitive or working paper tracks should not contain any author information; these papers will be double-blind reviewed. The PhD workshop and alternative modes of investigation and expression should contain author information at the beginning of the paper.
All papers should be 1.5 spaced, use A4 page formatting, have 2.5 cm (1 inch) margins on all sides (top, bottom, left and right) and use 11-point Times New Roman font (or the equivalent), except for the title, which should use 14-point font. Abstracts will be included in the online proceedings. For coherence, please keep your abstract for all tracks at a maximum of 150 words, excluding 3–4 key words. Regarding references, please follow the current style of an appropriate target journal or publisher.
Conference proceedings
Conference proceedings will be available online, including abstracts of all presented papers. The authors will maintain all copyrights to their work.
