CALL FOR PAPERS NOW OPEN
Logistics Research Network Annual Conference 2020
The public value supply chain: delivering economic, environmental and social benefits to all
Date: 9 - 11 September 2020
Venue: Cardiff Business School
With the current coronavirus pandemic, and even the impact of the financial crisis of 2008 still being felt globally, yielding economic, social, political and environmental consequences, there is a need for academics to influence both the practice and theory of logistics in order to yield more resilient and sustainable business models that deliver ‘public value’. The core purpose of future research on logistics needs to be to not only provide economic improvements but also generate social benefits for a wider range of stakeholders, not just a few commercial organisations. New ways of working need due consideration of the technological innovations that emerge in ever frequent cycles typified by the Internet of Things, organizational and process forms that allow for greater flexibility and dexterity in operational activities, with recent examples of right shoring decisions, and people matters that address such issues as poverty, inequalities in pay, exploitation in the form of modern-day slavery, and waste, such as in food, water and energy.
The aspiration of LRN 2020 as a whole is to enhance debate and critique of the whole range of contemporary issues associated with ‘public value’, hence we would expect to see a variety of papers with some at one end of the spectrum explicitly addressing ‘public value’ supply chains per se, with others perhaps concentrating only on one aspect of the myriad of topics that contribute to our understanding of improving logistics and supply chain management as a whole. Hence, as part of our general call, we will also have calls for special streams driven by enthusiasts with a passion for knowledge generation, enhancement and delivery.
