Call for Papers – Special Issue of the Journal of the IISc
Theme: Emerging Trends in Modeling and Analysis of Complex Systems
Across domains as diverse as public health, ecology, social sciences andcritical infrastructure, many research questions are being studied from a complex systems perspective. Examples of such research questions include structural analysis of static and time-varying networks (e.g., evaluating centrality measures of social networks, estimating reliability parameters of infrastructure networks), analysis of the spread of contagions (e.g., infectious diseases, rumors or memes), cascading failures in power grids and biological processes in gene regulatory networks. Modeling and analysis of such systems has attracted a lot of attention in recent times. This trend has been fueled by unprecedented growth in the volume and variety ofavailable data coupled with developments in high performance computing and big data analytics.
We are co-editing a special issue of the Journal of the Indian Institute of Science (Journal of the IISc) on “Emerging Trends in Modeling and Analysis of Complex Systems”. This journal is published by Springer and the special issue is slated to appear in July 2021. We use the phrase “complex systems” to encompass real world and engineered networked systems (e.g., biological systems, socio-technical systems, information systems, ecological systems, financial systems). This special issue will consist of papers that address topics related to the use of modeling and analysis techniques in designing, understanding and evaluating complex systems. We welcome original contributions as well as comprehensive review articles. We particularly encourage submissions that advance the understanding of analytical and computational aspects of such systems or/and novel applications of state-of-the-art modeling techniques to study real-world phenomena. Selected topics include but are not limited to the following.
- Techniques to evaluate structural properties/measures of systems modeled as complex networks.
- Use of mathematical models to reason about and analyze the dynamics of complex systems.
- Use of algorithmic and game theoretic tools to address computational problems concerning inferring model parameters, predicting behavior, control, etc. of a complex system.
- High Performance Computing (HPC) techniques for modeling, simulating and analyzing complex systems.
- Software systems for modeling, analyzing and visualizing complex systems.
- Statistical and machine learning techniques in the context of modeling and analyzing complex systems.
- Reliability, dependability and security issues arising in complex systems.
- Performance measurement, verification, validation and evaluation techniques for complex systems.
Prospective authors may send a short summary to any of the editors to confirm the suitability of the work for this special issue.Guest Editors:
