The workshop "Investigating the Mind: Pain, Emotion & Affective Disorders" focuses on how we can and should investigate the mind in an interdisciplinary approach. More specifically, we will be looking into the study of pain, emotion, and affective disorders from both empirical and philosophical perspectives. Our main objectives are to discuss (1) what kinds of strategies can be employed to investigate pain, emotion, and affective disorders and (2) what our best currently available accounts of these paradigmatic mental phenomena are. To achieve this, we bring together international experts studying the mind trained in different disciplines (neuroscience, philosophy, psychiatry, psychology).
Submission Guidelines
We invite original contributions on any aspect of investigating the mind concerning the mental phenomena of pain, emotion and affective disorders. We welcome submission of abstracts in the areas of philosophy of mind, philosophy of science and cognitive science as well as related empirical disciplines.
The workshop program will consist in a mix of lectures and group discussion slots. Contributed papers will be discussed during various group discussion sessions based on handouts rather than presented to the plenum. This innovative workshop format facilitates the direct exchange among speakers and participants in a collegial and constructive atmosphere. It gives early career as well as senior researchers an opportunity to collect extensive feedback from a group of people working on similar questions in the same as well as different fields, including the invited speakers and conference organizers, and identify opportunities for collaboration.
To apply for contributing a paper, submit an abstract (not exceeding 500 words) of your paper by July 15, 2018. Abstracts should be prepared suitably for anonymous peer review at https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=investmind18.
