This workshop is being conducted under the auspices of the ITS Conference Industry Track and is focused on exploring opportunities for standards for a class of technologies known as Adaptive Instructional Systems (AISs). Adaptive instruction uses computers and AI to tailor training and educational experiences to the goals, learning needs, and preferences of each individual learner and team of learners. Recently, the IEEE Learning Technologies Standards Committee (LTSC) approved the formation of a study group to examine the feasibility and efficacy of standards for AISs. This workshop is intended to expose the broader ITS community to recent activities and plans, and solicit input on low hanging fruit (nearterm opportunities) to develop AIS standards.
Final Schedule
Tuesday afternoon - ITS Standards for Adaptive Instructional Systems Workshop (W8) - starts at 1330 in Room 4.
1330-1430 - Presentation: Opportunities and Barriers to the Adoption of Standards for Adaptive Instructional Systems (AISs) (Avron Barr)
1430-1500 - Paper: Component Interaction within the Generalized Intelligent Framework for Tutoring (GIFT) as a Model for Adaptive Instructional System Standards (Robert Sottilare and Keith Brawner)
1500-1530 - Coffee Break
1530-1600 - Paper: Domain models, student modes, and assessment methods: three areas in need of standards for adaptive instruction (Daniel McCoy)
1600-1630 - Paper: Standardizing a Metadata Tagging with Pedagogical Identifiers (Jeanine Defalco)
1630-1700 - Panel Discussion: Opportunities for Adaptive Instructional System (AIS) Standards (Robert Sottilare, Avron Barr, and Keith Brawner)
