Book Title: Emerging Frontiers in Industrial and Systems Engineering:Growing Research and Practice
Synopsis
This book project arose out a recognized need to explore the infrastructure, methods, and models for continuing and expanding the space for industrial and systems engineers (ISEs) with respect to academia and practice integration. We recognize four important pillars for this work and have organized the book into four corresponding parts. Authors are invited to prepare a chapter on any of the themes/topics below or on related topics. Case studies/examples can be integrated into the chapter or framed as a separate chapter.
Part I: Engineering Requirements and/or Standards
• An Overview of Engineering Requirements and Standards
• Ethics, integrity, and commitment/responsibility: Relationship to Engineering Requirements and Standards
• Creating a culture of compassion and empathy through Engineering Requirements and Standards
• Data Collection and Metrics Standardization in Complex Environments (e.g., aerospace and large parts manufacturing)
• Robot Standards in Factory Systems
• ISA-95 Standards for Cyber-Physical Systems (especially for enabling/leveraging Digital Thread)
• The Systems Engineering V for Designing Components
• The Integration of Cyber-Physical Systems: From Shop Floor to the C-Suite
• Or other related topics…
• And related case studies…
Part II: Workforce Development and/or Diversity and Inclusion
• Workforce Development in Engineering
• Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging in Engineering
• Education Innovation: Service Learning, Immersive Learning, and Collaborative Learning
• Humanitarian Engineering
• Developing 21st Century skills
• Motivation and Self-Efficacy
• New Competencies for ISEs in Emerging Technologies
• Designing and Launching Certificate Programs in ISE
• Incentivizing Collaboration
• Or other related topics…
• And related case studies…
Part III: Interdisciplinary Collaborations
• Incentivizing Collaboration
• Disrupt or Be Disrupted
• Leveraging Design and Innovation Practices to Engage Frontline Employees
• A System Definition and Language for Educating Engineering Students
• How ISE Research Can Generate Advances that Help Address NAE Grand Challenges
• A Perspective on Disciplines that Could Work with ISEs on Industry Needs
• Or other related topics…
• And related case studies…
Part IV: Industry-University Partnerships
• Overview of Industry-University Partnerships
• The Story of NSF I/UCRCs
• Opportunities, Challenges, and Incentives for Tenure-Track Faculty Engagement in Industry-University Partnerships
• Models for Industry Engagement with Academia in Research
• Industry-University Partnerships as a Brand Development Strategy
• Engaging Industry Advisory Boards on Research
• Publications versus Intellectual Property Assignment
• Steps to Growing Industry Partnerships Through the Engineering Curricula
• Creating Productive and Continuous Initiatives
• Project Planning
• Or other related topics…
• And related case studies…
Submission Guidelines
Chapter proposal submissions are invited from teams of at least one academic and one practitioner on or before August 1, 2017. Proposals should be limited to 1000-2000 words and provide: chapter title; name of authors, affiliation and contact information; a brief statement on how the chapter fits into the general theme and section(s) of the book; and a summary/abstract of proposed content. An outline of chapter headings and subheadings may also be included.
Only electronic submissions in PDF format will be considered. Please upload your proposal through Easy Chair using the following link:https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=isegrp2018
Submissions will be reviewed in a single-blind manner. Notifications regarding the status of the chapter proposal will be made to authors by September 1, 2017.
Based on accepted chapter proposals, chapter submissions will be accepted on or before February 1, 2018. All submitted chapters will be reviewed by two or more reviewers. Chapter submissions must not exceed 25 pages and must be prepared in accordance with the submission guide that will be provided with acceptance notification.
