The International Radar Symposium India (IRSI) was organised first time in India in 1983 under the leadership of Dr.N.L.Krishnan,then CMD BEL and Dr.R.P.Shenoy ,then Director LRDE,DRDO.This event was a great success with unbelievable international participation. Some of the pioneers who contributed to the success of the event were Prof Michel Carpentier of Thomson CSF, Dr.John Clarke of Royal Signals,UK,Dr.Alfonso Farina of Selenia S.p.A,Rome, Dr.Eli Brookner of Raytheon,USA to name a few from abroad and many Indian Scientists and Academicians who struggled to make our nation self reliant in Radar Science & Technology.The mega success of te event,probably lulled the organisers into complacency or the sheer volume of voluntary work involved in organising, prevented the repetition of the event for almost 15 years.
Dr.R.P.Shenoy, the Bheeshma Pithamaha of Indian Radar Technologists, again took the initiative to bring together Dr.V.K.Koshy,CMD BEL and Dr.Geporge M Cleetus,Director LRDE to repeat the event in 1999 with the same name & Logo. IRSI-99 ,organised with seed money from BEL,DRDO,ISRO & HAL ,was again a great success wich made the event to continue as a biennial series. Then onwards IRSI repeated every odd years till now. 2017 will witness the 11th IRSI. Local and multinational industries continued to support every IRSI.
IRSI-17 is scheduled from 12 Dec to 16 Dec 2017 at Bangalore.
