THE-ICE annual IPoE Forums (International Panel of Experts) were established to offer a series of high-level events focusing on strategic issues facing tourism, hospitality and events (TH&E) education. Each IPoE Forum, open to members and non-members, has a highly focused theme, with leading experts from around the world who are invited to speak on issues surrounding TH&E education, accreditation, benchmarking and the development of Best Practice.
Attendance to THE-ICE IPoE Forums provides an ideal platform to bridge research, education and industry, to individuals within TH&E including: * Researchers and educators * Postgraduate and advanced undergraduate student * Industry professionals in hospitality, tourism and events.
THE-ICE International Panel of Experts (IPoE) Forum is proud to celebrate its 11th annual signature event in 2017. After being held overseas for the past two years (the 10th IPoE Forum 2017 was held in Switzerland, with the 9th IPoE Forum being held in the Netherlands), the IPoE Forum 2017 is being proudly hosted by William Angliss Institute in Melbourne, Australia from the 14th – 17th November 2017.
The IPoE 2017 Planning Committee and THE-ICE have now developed an inspiring theme ‘Scholarly excellence in the age of compliance’, with subthemes of:
-
National versus global accreditation – the challenges, the dilemmas and the future
In an increasingly globalised world, institutions are being faced with issues of national compliance requirements and demand for optional global accreditation. What roles will national compliance and global accreditation play? Will they complement or compete with one another? -
Balancing Minimum National Compliance Standards with Developing Global Excellence
Balancing the requirements of meeting minimum national compliance standards with the challenge of nurturing the development of scholarly excellence of staff and students. What strategic issues are institutions facing as they balance the internal and external requirements of teaching, scholarly activity and research? What are the challenges being faced of meeting the requirements of revenue generation and student numbers, often coupled with access and equity concerns, while also meeting industry and other stakeholders needs and requirements? -
Designing Academic Systems and Staff Support Processes That Will Develop Excellence – What Are the Trade-Offs?
Institution are not only facing the requirements of compliance, but the desire to be seen to excel. What are the institutional academic structures, promotion policies, incentives and annual staff review processes and resourcing that can be employed to ensure that an institution not only meets its minimum compliance requirements, but that it can also nurture and developing excellence? A roundtable café session that will explore what has worked (or not), for whom, and why? -
Developing Students as Reflective Practitioners
How have institutions approached developing a curriculum and pedagogy that ensures students acquire technical skills and knowledge as part of compliance requirements, but also developed the broader skills of being reflective, deep and critical thinkers who embody and aspire to excellence? What has been done? What has worked, and what has not worked? -
Assuring Today’s Learning Outcomes Meet Tomorrow’s Employment Opportunities We live in a changing world where technology is able to rapidly replace humans, yet curriculum reviews and compliance cycles are typically done every few years – which means the curriculum can be slow to react to changes in the real world. How do we develop a flexible and responsive curriculum and assessment system that can ensure that students will not only be able to meet today’s compliance standards and immediate employment opportunities, but also be ready for new and yet undefined roles in a globalised and instantaneous new world?

Posters Paper Submissions
A poster paper is a visual presentation of your research with the objective of stimulating discussion and generating feedback. Poster papers presented at IPoE Forums provide an opportunity to introduce research to scholars, industry professionals and peers, generating networking opportunities, which can enhance existing research and promote further research.
Poster Paper presentations
Poster Paper presentations will be allocated an area to display their paper. Therefore, it is important that poster papers are eye-catching and readable from a distance (approximately 2-3m).
Presenters are responsible for setting up and taking down their presentation materials. In addition, author/s should make themselves available during Forum breaks, in order to discuss their work one-on-one in a creative presentation environment.
The Poster Paper Presentation Session provides delegates the opportunity to present research in visual rather than the traditional oral presentation.
