CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
SPECIAL EVENT at the 2019 Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation, and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) titled
“Defining the State of the Art across the Spectrum of Augmentation”
02-06 December 2019
Orange County Convention Center (OCCC)
Orlando, FL USA
Special Event Objective: The NATO HFM-297 (Human Factors and Medicine) Research Task Group (RTG) is a three-year endeavour to review and analyze opportunities for moving new and emerging augmentation technologies from state-of-art to state-of-practice for training and operations within the NATO alliance nations. Augmentation technologies are defined as “tools and methods to support interaction and stimulation of users through immersion, cognition and neurostimulation to improve learning, performance, retention, and transfer”. An analysis of these emerging technologies will offer NATO substantial and unique opportunities for developing more efficient training (e.g., reduced time/cost to competency) and performance aids for operations. Moreover, as these technologies evolve, consideration of the requirements for standardization and interoperability must be addressed. Across this three-year activity, the nature, extent, availability, and feasibility of these opportunities will be researched and reported.
The goal of this I/ITSEC 2019 Special Event is to assist the RTG in baselining the state of the art and to provide an interactive forum to demonstrate current trends in augmentation technology in the context of human performance. This will involve identifying current and emerging technologies that interact with and stimulate user(s) perceptual systems resulting in higher learning, performance, retention, and/or transfer. As a participant in the Special Event, you will have a chance to engage directly with RTG members and I/ITSEC attendees in a focused context. The event will be documented and included as a chapter in the RTG final recommendation report. The showcase will be free of charge to I/ITSEC attendees and the event will be held at the Public Release level.
Call for Participation: We invite government, academic, and industry labs to participate in this technology showcase. We are looking for military relevant demonstrations across two themes: (1) Training and (2) Job/Performance Aids.
A submission to the Special Event requires an abstract and a video, with the following guidelines:
- A 350 word abstract summarizing the system to be demoed, including the system’s purpose and an explanation of its significance.
- Describe the perceptual system targeted in your technology and its influence on performance
- A link to a video. Videos should be a maximum of 4 minutes long and showcase both the functionality and significance of your system.
Evaluation Criteria: A program committee will be set up with members from the RTG. The RTG will select proposals based upon relevancy to the task group’s goals and expected interest to the I/ITSEC community. Commercial products are eligible, but sales and marketing activities are not appropriate.
Submission Due Date: 30 JUNE 2019
