This year's theme | Work-as-Imagined and Work-as-Done: Balancing Rules and Reality |
The Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences is proud to organise the 2nd edition of the International Cross-industry Safety Conference (ICSC) dedicated to both practical and theoretical aspects of safety. The conference aims to function as a platform to disseminate and share knowledge and experience about safety within and between industry and academia. This year’s theme is “Work-as-Imagined and Work-as-Done: Balancing Rules and Reality” and the program will cover a wide range of relevant research and practice.
There is a plethora of approaches to safety, respective models and management methods that have been proposed by the academia. Various ‘best practices’ are applied across industry sectors and are included in standards and regulations. The diversity of models and approaches serves the scope of science, but when it comes to practice, does not allow the establishment of a common language regarding safety. Academics might focus on problems that the industry is not highly concerned with, and the industry might not be knowledgeable about research results that can be used to solve safety related problems. Moreover, even best practices might not be widely shared across different industries.
For all industry sectors safety is one of the main focal points. Organizations have recognized that safety improvements contribute to the achievement of broader business goals. The ICSC is a unique opportunity to bring together the various industry sectors and academia. We aim to function as a platform for disseminating and sharing knowledge and experience about safety, and we intend to become a hub for discussing current and future safety challenges and ways to deal with those.
Submission Guidelines
Researchers and practitioners from the academia and industry are invited to submit an abstract (up to 400 words) on original research or practical experiences related to safety. Topics may include but are not limited to: safety management, safety performance, safety culture, resilience, risk assessment, new safety thinking etc. Papers related to this year’s theme are especially welcomed. Authors are asked to suggest the form of their contribution to the conference: full paper, poster, or oral presentation. Abstracts can be uploaded to the Easychair system until June 9th 2017 at:https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=icsc20171. The program committee will evaluate the proposed contributions on the basis of their relevance to the goals of the conference and their importance for the industry and academia. The contributors will be informed accordingly until June 30th.
Upon abstract acceptance, full papers must be submitted before September 15th 2017. A template and further instructions will be provided to the authors in time. Full papers will be peer-reviewed and the final revised papers will be included in the conference proceedings. All presentations will take place in chaired sessions of 25 minutes including questions and answering time. Poster sessions will be offered as part of the program.
