Submission Guidelines
As announced in Edinburgh during the business meeting of ICEHL-20, the next venue of the International Conference for English Historical Linguistics will be the Leiden University Centre for Linguistics. The conference will take place during the second week of June 2020, to be closed with an informal conference outing – details will be announced in due course.
Plenary speakers will be Claudia Claridge (Universität Augsburg), Bettelou Los (University of Edinburgh), Peter Petré (Universiteit Antwerpen) and George Walkden (Universität Konstanz). For preliminary information about ICEHL-21, see our website at https://icehl21.wordpress.com/.
The call for papers is now open, and we invite scholars interested in all aspects related to the history of the English language to submit proposals for conference workshops as well as abstracts for papers. Proposals may take the following two forms:
- Workshop proposals: deadline 1 May 2019 (notification of acceptance 15 June 2019)
- Abstracts for papers: extended deadline 10 September 2019 (notification of acceptance 1 November 2019).
Workshop proposals should include a title, description of the overall topic and a preliminary list of participants (maximum length: 2 A4 pages including title and references, font size 12, line space 1, submitted as a Word document). The workshops will be held during separate three-hour slots, either before the start of the conference proper or during a separate afternoon halfway through the conference itself. Workshops are expected to be designed to stimulate discussion and intellectual exchange among participants; invited participants should therefore exchange papers with each other before the workshops take place. Workshops will be open to other conference participants aside from those invited; time on the conference programme permitting, workshop conveners may be given the opportunity to present findings and conclusions in a broader forum at the end of the conference.
After a workshop proposal has been accepted, invited participants will be asked to submit abstracts of their individual workshop contributions to the general call for abstracts by 10 September. These abstracts will be reviewed by both the workshop conveners and the conference organising committee.
We also invite abstracts for conference papers (20 mins + 10 mins discussion).
Abstracts for papers should be no longer than a single page A4 (font size 12, line space 1, submitted as a Word document), including title and references. Please make sure that the file you submit via EasyChair is entirely anonymous. You will be given the opportunity to revise and de-anonymise the abstract (adding your full name, contact details and affiliation (if any)) after reviews and notifications of acceptance have been sent out. Abstracts will be reviewed by both the conference organising committee and by additional invited referees. Conference participants can present no more than a single paper each (workshops excluded).
Venue
The conference will be held at the Leiden University Centre for Linguistics.
