Hampton University’s First Annual Caribbean Health Disparities Conference and Research Symposium – "A Hampton University Response...Addressing Health Inequities on Caribbean Populations One Step at a Time,” will bring together researchers, government officials, policy makers and health professionals from the Caribbean and the U.S. to jointly address health disparities in Caribbean-American populations residing in the Caribbean and in the U.S. By developing a venue which solely focuses on Caribbean health inequities, this conference will allow researchers, community advocates, policy makers, lay persons, and academic administrators the opportunity to interact and develop important collaborations. Each session of this conference has been designed to be inclusive of a diverse mix of esteemed basic scientists, health professionals, and community advocates to facilitate the development of bench to bedside to community approaches. Additionally, we have taken specific measures to engage and increase the participation of young investigators in order to grow the numbers of biomedical, clinical and community researchers actively engaged in Caribbean health inequities research by: 1) offering a community-based participatory research preconference workshop with continuing education credits, 2) holding a junior/early-stage investigator poster session (ESI), 3) providing travel awards to early stage investigators with meritorius research, and 4) providing early investigators an opportunity to publish their findings in a peer reviewed health disparities scientific journal. Each session will conclude with short talks from travel awardees providing them with an opportunity to showcase their work. Since the conference will be held in concert with the Hampton University's Research Symposium student and faculty reserachers will be showcasing the resutls of their work in concurrent and poster sessions. Don't miss this opportunity to showcase your work!
