Abstract registration deadline | August 14, 2017 |
Submission deadline | August 20, 2017 |
Metaphorum 2017 is an opportunity to make connections between practitioners and theorists. The connection-making process begins with the submission of abstracts. We would like to encourage submission of abstracts from both Systems Theory academics, and from practitioners in health. Because practitioners and theorists often have different concerns and priorities, the abstract submission criteria are intended to be flexible to account for different kinds of writing.
Prior to the conference, conversations between practitioners and theorists will be supported online during the submission process. The conference organisers will support participants in presenting their work in the most effective way.
The conference will comprise a mix of open-ended workshop sessions and speaker sessions. Accepted presenters will be given a variety of different opportunities to present their work during the conference. All accepted abstracts will be published in the proceedings.
Selected papers will be published in a special issue of the Cybernetics Journal, Kybernetes.
In the first instance, we invite extended abstracts on the topics of:
- What healing processes are at work in organisations as they seek to mitigate the pathological effects of crisis?
- What healing processes can transform an organisation’s resilience?
- What are the healing processes at work within the organisations whose job it is to heal others?
- How do organisations manage risk?
- How do organisations deal with failure?
- What advantages can the Viable System Model and the tools of management cybernetics bring to bear on these challenges?
Submission Guidelines
The conference invites extended abstracts of no more than 2 to 3 pages in length. An extended abstract can be a traditional piece of academic writing, or a more creative representation of a particular practical problem (for example a picture or diagram). Either way, the problem addressed should be clearly represented. This should be in Word or PDF format and should be uploaded as a file in the UPLOADS section of the EasyChair submission form.
The Title of the abstract should be typed into the Title box in the system, and a brief summary of the presentation typed into the text box marked “abstract”. Because this is a conference focused on practical problems and systems approaches, we ask that your short abstract includes a problem statement summarising the problem that your work addresses. This will help us coordinate collaborations in the conference.
The submission deadline is 20th July 2017. The conference accepts a maximum of two abstract submissions per person. A single presenter is allowed to present a maximum of two papers. Authors will be informed of acceptance by August 20th*, 2017. The final programme will be published on September 20th.
All abstracts will be submitted to a blind peer review process. All accepted abstracts will be published in the conference proceedings. At least one author has to be registered before the camera-ready due deadline to warrant publication of the paper in the proceedings. Authors will be given the opportunity to have their paper(s) considered for a special issue of the journal Kybernetes.
