Welcome to THE 1st INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH (ERL2021)
"Innovative Approaches in Teaching and Learning Strategies within the Digital Revolution."

Description: The ERL symposium’s ultimate goal is to create a self-sustaining, continuing educational forum in which the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) educators, administrators, and instructors can foster pedagogical innovation and best practices in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the MENA region that create the educational conditions necessary to reach PSU’s Strategic Plan, and Vision 2030 goals, and universal Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The ERL symposium aims to produce a unique experience in the Educational Research field by presenting qualified speakers, carefully selected paper presentations/posters, and intensive professional development workshops.
Objectives:
- To establish communication among educators and professionals (both K-12 schools and higher education institutions) at the local, regional, and international levels about the needs of teaching and learning for both K-12 schools and higher education institutions
- To develop an ongoing program where educators in the region can get information and stimulation in their respective fields by giving them an opportunity to participate in seminars, workshops, and educational training programs
Submission Dates:
Proposal submission opening date: Sunday, August 8th, 2021
Proposal submission deadline: Saturday, September 18th, 2021

Types of Submissions:
All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. The symposium will welcome solicit paper, poster presentations, and colloquia, which will undergo a rigorous review by the Scientific Committee. All abstracts must be in English. Three types of abstracts will be solicited:
Individual papers: (20 minutes presentations + 10 minutes discussion)
- Research papers in one of the areas specified above.
- The abstract should range between 250 - 300 words in length with a clear title (12 words maximum) and a short blurb (50 words). The abstract should reflect the research gap, methods, and findings/implications.
Posters: (10 minutes presentations + 5 minutes discussion).
- Post-graduate students are encouraged to apply under this category, allowing them to communicate with national and international scholars in their field for immediate feedback on their research.
- The abstract should range between 150 - 200 words in length with a clear title (12 words maximum).
- All submissions should include a short bio (50 words) of the presenter(s) to be included in the conference program.
One-hour colloquia: (50 minutes presentation + 10 minutes group discussion)
- One-hour colloquia consists of four individual 10-minute papers within a one-hour time slot proposed by the colloquium organizer(s).
- The 1-hr colloquium proposals should be closely connected to the same topic. A discussant may (or may not) be invited to provide some brief remarks.
- Each paper is typically allocated up to two minutes for clarification questions, followed by brief discussion comments (if any), leaving approximately 10 minutes for general discussion.

- Steering Committee– Dr. Mahmoud Almahmoud, Dean, Deanship of Educational Services (DES), Acting Dean, College of Humanities; Dr. Alia Mitchell, Vice Dean, College of Humanities. The committee will be responsible for overseeing the organization and smooth implementation of the symposium through coordinating with all other committees. The committee will be headed by the conference chair and include the co-chair, academic department chairs, and chairs of the symposium committees as members.
- Scientific Committee– Chair: Dr. Norah Almusharraf, Co-Chairs: Prof. Hala Dalbani, Co-chair Dr. Joseph Engemann, Adjunct Professor, Department of Learning and Instruction, State University of New York at Buffalo. Volunteered ERL members will also play an active role in this process. The committee will be responsible for overseeing the review process of proposals and finalizing the conference program. Due to the particular importance of this committee in ensuring the quality and rigor of the symposium program, the members of the committee will be recruited from national, regional, and international universities.
- Journal Publishing Committee– Chair: Prof. Mohammad Nurunnabi, Mr. Shabir Hussain, and Ms. Maha Aljasser, Administrative Assistant of Educational Research Lab, College of Humanities. The committee will be responsible for communicating with PSU Research Review and other international journals for the potential publication of the papers presented in ERL2021.
- Media & Sponsorship Committee– Chair: Dr. Norah Almusharraf, and Ms. Maha Aljasser, Administrative Assistant of Educational Research Lab, College of Humanities. The committee will be responsible for marketing the symposium through various channels, including newspapers, social media, TV, and radio. The committee will attract sponsors and coordinate the launch/updating of the symposium website.
- Logistics Committee– Chair: Dr. Norah Almusharraf and Ms. Maha Aljasser, ERL Research Assistant. The committee will be responsible for all logistical requirements, including arranging the online platform for the conference, responding to participants’ queries, and issuing certificates.
