Case-based reasoning and other knowledge-based methods and approaches have a rich tradition in explanation-aware computing. For the creativity- and teaching-oriented domains, such as computational design, media, or open educational resources, a number of such explanation-aware systems have already developed; these systems mostly deal with knowledge-intensive data and complex algorithms of different types for reasoning and explanation processes. The core functionalities of such approaches are mostly related to retrieval and retention of cases in the form of explainable and formalized domain knowledge.
The ICCBR 2019 workshop Explainable Knowledge in Computational Design, Media, and Teaching (EK-CDMT) is intended to continue this tradition in order to explore the newest directions and trends of this research field.
We welcome contributions from researchers of all directions of research on knowledge-based approaches in design, creativity, and teaching activities. The submissions may include, but are not limited to, new algorithms for case-based design and media retrieval, knowledge-based methods for explainable decision support during different design phases, new data structures for open educational resources, design or teaching material generation, configuration, and interpretation with AI techniques, cognitive architectures for design and teaching tasks, and similar research disciplines. We particularly invite submissions of surveys and overviews of the existing approaches to get a comprehensive overview of the current status of the workshop topic.
