Introduction and objective
After a successful first meeting in Amsterdam in 2018, it is our pleasure to invite you to join the second Annual Meeting of the Cycling Research Board. The three-day symposium will be organized by the Dutch Cycling Academy and will take place in Delft from the 30th October until the 1st of November 2019.
The Dutch Cycling Academy is a multidisciplinary network of scholars from Dutch universities that work on topics related to cycling. Their disciplines range from mathematics and engineering to philosophy and sociology. The mature cycling culture throughout the Netherlands offers a unique and ideal object to study all kinds of social and technical phenomena in relation to cycling.
The theme of the second Annual Meeting of the Cycling Research Board will be the role of the bicycle in designing the sustainable urban transport system of the future, making cities livable, fair, vital and healthy places to live, work and play in.
We invite researchers of all relevant disciplines, offering a constructive environment in which we will support each other in bringing cycling research to the next level. Next to providing a platform to share recent research results, we invite early stage researchers and PhDs to join the symposium and participate in workshops, demos, experiments, and masterclasses and present and discuss their research questions, novel methods or the expected contributions of their research.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Bicycle traffic flow operations, modelling and simulation
- Cycling behavior theory and modelling
- Determinants of bicycle mode choice
- Route choice modelling and urban wayfinding
- Traffic control, ITS for cyclists
- Geometric and network design for bicycle facilities
- Data collection, experiments and field observations
- Cycling and public transport
- Multi-modal hub design
- Impacts of new technology on cycling (electrification and automation)
- Relations between cycling (innovations) and the social environment
- Bicycle sharing systems and their impacts
