1st Workshop on Cognitive Business Process Management (CBPM’17)
Submission Guidelines
Cognitive Computing is regarded as the next wave of computing that enables the evolution from the programmatic era into cognitive era. Programmatic era is characterized as a computing paradigm in which the computing logic is codified as deterministic programs in machine language by humans, and a paradigm in which humans proactively seeks information of interest in the personal and enterprise data spaces. Building on top of advances in artificial intelligence, machine learning and natural language processing, cognitive computing defines a paradigm where the computing logic is codified into probabilistic models that are learned by machines through ingesting big sea of structured and unstructured data, and where a proactive seek-approach on human side is replaced with proactive information push model by machines. Advances in cognitive computing coupled with the availability of large amount of dark and unexploited data in the enterprise and in the public domain, related to the operation of businesses and their processes, has created an unprecedented opportunity for rethinking how business processes are supported in the enterprise, and in the automation of a large volume of business processes that have defined automation so far.
The main goal of this workshop is to provide a forum for researchers and professionals interested in understanding, envisioning and discussing the challenges and opportunities of moving from a programmatic era into a cognitive era on business processes, and on business process management as a discipline. This workshop would bring together researchers and practitioners to share knowledge and exchange opinions and ideas around the requirements for and the need for investigating the transformation potential on a new research direction that we call “cognitive business process management” (CBPM).
CBPM'17 will be held in conjunction with the 15th Conference in Business Process Management (BPM'2017), which is held between 10-15 September 2017 in Barcelona, Spain. As the first workshop on this topic, the key objective of this workshop is to discuss and form the research agenda for cognitive business process management and establish a community of researchers and practitioners interested in advancing the state of the art and collaborating on the topic of cognitive BPM across industry, academia and government bodies. The workshop solicits a number of contribution types:
- Position papers, 4-page limit, describing a position statement on issues related to the topics of the workshop. Position papers would lead to interesting discussion by raising key questions, controversial point of views, challenges, and ideas to address the identified issues.
- Research papers, 10-page limit, describing original and novel research work, including research results and evaluations. Research papers should not have been published or submitted for publication concurrently elsewhere.
The submissions should be in PDF format. Submissions that exceed the page limit of 10 pages or do not follow the BPM’17 conference paper format guidelines will be rejected without review.
