The 1st International Symposium on “Conversation Analysis: Research and Development Innovations in Thailand (CARDIT)”
Submission Guidelines
This symposium aims to initiate an on-going conversation among teachers, teacher trainers, administrators and scholars to discuss the most recent advances in Conversation Analysis (CA) and how insights from this field might be applied to meet the everyday needs of teachers and researchers at all levels of Thai education. Thus, the main objective of this symposium is to bridge the well-known gap between classroom practice and CA theory in Thailand and, by extension, other ASEAN countries which use English (with varying success) as an official language or lingua franca in areas of national importance such as economic development, health, communication, and education. Abstracts may be submitted in Thai or English.
List of Topics
- Using theoretical and applied Conversation Analysis (CA) as tools for research and/or professional development in foreign and second language education, and also across disciplines and professions
- Using CA as a tool to study effective communication in a digital world (for example, in chat rooms)
- Identifying emerging, cutting-edge trends and topics in CA or CA-informed research and development
- Identifying important CA-informed topics and techniques for teachers’ professional development, typically mediated via workshops, panel discussions or panel sessions
- Using technology for CA, including AI-assisted transcription tools
- Multimodal CA focusing on different forms of embodiment, materiality, and transcription techniques
- CA and assessment (Presentations on paired assessment are particularly welcome.)
- Administering programs that use theoretical and applied CA as tools for professional development
