The Central States Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine offers two research grants per year at the undergraduate, masters, and PhD level (six grants total).
Eligibility requirements:
- The student is attending a university in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, or Oklahoma for the 2020-2021 academic year.
- The student is majoring in an ACSM related field (e.g., clinical/applied or basic exercise science or sports medicine)
- The student has a minimum of a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- The student is a current CSACSM member (as of time of the grant submission)
- The student’s mentor has been a CSACSM member for at least one year prior to grant submission.
- The student is able to attend and present his/her proposal at the Fall CSACSM Regional Meeting. (The 2020 Regional Meeting will be held at Johnson County Community College, Overland Park, KS, October 29-30, 2020)
Award Amounts:
Undergraduate: $500
Masters: $1000
PhD: $1500
*In the case there are not two award winners in each category, award amounts may be distributed to further applicants in one or both other category levels.
Important Dates (2020):
April 8 – Initial call for applications
~April 10 – application portal open
May 1st - Submission website will close at 5PM CST
May 15 - Award winners will be notified
Required Materials TO BE SUBMITTED IN ONE PDF FILE IN THIS ORDER: (ALL documents should be Times New roman 12-point font, 1-inch margins, single spaced)
1. Cover letter confirming eligibility requirements. Be sure to include your name and your mentor's name, project title, and institution. (max 1 page)
2. Abstract with the specific subheadings OVERVIEW, PURPOSE, METHODS, ANALYSIS detailing the project (max 1 page).
3. A grant proposal with the specific subheadings: OVERVIEW, INNOVATION, SPECIFIC AIMS, APPROACH, SIGNIFICANCE. (max 5 pages)
4. A detailed budget for the project and an explanation what the grant will cover from the overall budget (if the budget exceeds the grant). Likewise, please list other sources of funding that will allow the grant to be successfully executed. (max 1 page)
5. References for the grant proposal. (no page limit)
6. Two letters of recommendation (one being from the applicant’s mentor) evaluating the applicant’s ability to develop as a researcher/scholar. (no page limit)
7. Unofficial transcripts reflecting a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale (no page limit)
