The renowned ITS (Intelligent Tutoring Systems) 30 year old series of top ranking International Conferences extends its legacy by inaugurating a new series of top-flight Thematic International Conferences on state-of-the-art topics in the context of a broad range of multiple academic and research activities undertaken by the Institute of Intelligent Systems (IIS).
The second of this new series of ITS Thematic International Conference aims to regroup research in multidisciplinary domains such as neuroscience, health, computer science, artificial intelligence, human-computer interaction, education and social interaction on the theme of “Brain Function Assessment in Learning” .
Theme of the Conference
The theme of the conference is Brain Function Assessment in Learning. The conference aspires to attract state of the art research on the theme of brain function assessment in learning and marks the direction towards a new and very promising field with an emphasis on new ways of investigation and ideas. It aims to bring together specialists in Neuroscience, Computer Science, Medicine, Education, Human Computer Interactions, Social Interaction, a cross discipline approach to understand better how to use the brain capabilities to improve cognition and learning. The impacts cover a large variety of applications in Education and Medicine. The conference will also give the opportunity to the participants to examine the multiple applications of Brain Function Assessment in Learning-mainly in the Education and Health Fields -which become more and more promising. For example, knowing the brainwave activity and the condition of a user, researchers can detect if he/she is not concentrated, over busy, hyperactive, anxious, not motivated, and they can apply corrective methods to provide calm, relaxation and better receptivity to allow a better transfer of knowledge and life conditions.
The convergence of cognitive studies, tools of artificial intelligence, neuroscience approaches and health applications open a new era of multidisciplinary research tracks. The emergence of new assessment devices allows new ways of experimentation in laboratories, with light, non intrusive, and low cost material. Industrial representatives of relative technology will also be invited to present the new possibilities of their tools and equipment.
Submission Guidelines
All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. The following paper categories are welcome:
- Full papers
- Short papers
- Posters
Double Blind Evaluation:
In order to increase high quality papers and independent merit, the evaluation process is double blind.
Important Note for Double blind review policy: The papers submitted for review MUST not contain the authors’ names, affiliations, or any information that may disclose the authors’ identity (this information is to be restored in the camera-ready version upon acceptance).
Please replace author names and affiliations with Xs on submitted papers. In particular, in the version submitted for review please avoid explicit auto-references, such as “in [1] we show” — consider “in [1] it is shown“. I.e., you may cite your own previous works provided that it is not deducible from the text that the cited work belongs to the authors. When citing your previous work, please keep the names with Xs.
Note: there will be scientific paper submissions only up to ten (10) pages; the final presentation format will be determined during the reviewing process.
- All accepted submissions, including those to be presented as posters, will appear in the electronic proceedings either as a full paper [ten (10) pages], short paper [six (6) pages], or poster [two (2) pages].
- Only submissions in .pdf format will be accepted. All submissions should be in English.
Please note: the paper submission deadline will not be extended.
Paper submissions should be ten (10) pages maximum in Springer LNCS format. They must be submitted through EasyChair on or before February 28, 2018, 11:59pm pacific time.
Step 1:
Download the LNCS template and formatting instructions from the Springer website
Go to http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-7-72376-0
Download the LNCS template for the word processing software you would like to use. E.g., when using Word 2007, download LNCS-Office2007.zip, when using Word 97-2003, download word.zip, when using LaTex, download lncs.zip, and so forth. Note that most but not all of these download are listed at the top right (notable exception: LNCS-Office2007.zip is listed further down). You may ascertain which file to download for use with your preferred word processor by clicking on the relevant “Proceedings and Other Multiauthor Volumes ….. ” link. For Word 2007 this actually gets you to the download link. Unzip the file and study the instructions.
Step 2:
Prepare and submit your optional abstract
Prepare a page with title, author information, abstract, and keywords, following the instructions in the typeinst file that you downloaded. Submit the page you prepared through EasyChair on or before Fewbruary 28, 2018, 11:59pm pacific time. All submissions must be in .pdf format.
To submit through EasyChair, go to: http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=bfal2018
Login using your existing EasyChair account, or create a new account following the instructions on the site. (If you are not logged in as author, you may need to change your role to author. You may do so by selecting the menu item: BFAL 2018> Change Role. Your current role is always shown at the top of the EasyChair screen.)
Once logged in, select New Submission, and select “Scientific Paper Track” Follow the instructions on the submission screen to upload your one-page abstract in Springer LNCS format. Be sure to check the box labeled “Abstract Only,” and to fill out the keywords and topics. Please select the topics carefully, as the topics play a key role in the process of assigning reviewers.
Step 3:
Prepare and submit your paper
Papers are 10 pages maximum and must include an abstract. All submissions must be in .pdf format. Please submit your submission through EasyChair by February 28, 2018, 11:59pm pacific time.
For Papers: Login as author, and select your paper (by number) at the top of the screen. Click on “Submit a new version” on the right, and follow the instructions on the submission screen. Upload your 10-page document in Springer LNCS format. Paper submissions must include an abstract. You may also update information specified previously. In particular, it is important that the topics you select on the submission screen in EasyChair accurately reflect the paper’s content.
