A day-long workshop with academics from the Royal College of Art, School of Design and School of Communication.
The practice of decolonising is rooted in a historical critique of the enlightenment, in particular in its enmeshment in the enslavement of black people, and genocide of indigenous cultures. The heritage of computation emanates from an enlightenment tradition, in which rationality was limited to upper class white men. However the very notion of intelligence is embedded with cultural and social specificity, what counts as knowledge is political.
Today we are faced with algorithmic predictive systems which target marginalised black communities, automated decision making which disadvantages women, gendered characterisation of voice based interfaces, AI for genetic selection of babies, and yet the response is that those who have done no wrong have nothing to worry about.

Submission Guidelines
This workshop will bring together discussion, interventions, actionable insight - not limited by format - with the view of recovering, inventing and reworking models of knowledge production, in particular those that challenge current epistemic orthodoxy.
