ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON
ISLAMIC ECONOMICS AND SOCIAL SCIENCES
- Background :
Islamic economics and finance uphold the principles and values of justice, togetherness, and balance. These values shape economic behavior that can strengthen domestic economic structures such as encouraging consumption of locally produced goods, strengthening production bases more equitably, strengthening consumption bases, anti-speculation and provision of supporting facilities that promote national efficiency and competitiveness.
The grandeur of the Islamic economic concept should not just stay on paper. Harmonization between concepts and the practice of islamic economy in the real field requires a sustainable process. Indeed today, Indonesia's islamic economy and finance continues to grow. Besides being marked by the development of various commercial-based Islamic institutions such as banking, takaful, cooperatives, and financial markets, there are also various social institutions based on Islam.
On the other hand, there is also an increase in the interest of Indonesian society to the halal industry which has developed into a lifestyle. These include broad sectors of islamic economy such as halal food, islamic fashion, medicine and cosmetics, as well as islamic business. Furthermore, to support the development of national infrastructure, the government and regulators in particular the Ministry of Finance, Bank Indonesia and the Financial Services Authority are preparing infrastructure development plans with the role of financial markets, including Sukuk (islamic bond) instruments.
However, great surprises and challenges always come ahead. Unavoidable, from the external side; the turbulence of the global economy, the leading trade war between leading power countries and the lack of proper policy support, coloring the ups and downs of the islamic economic and financial development in Indonesia. But not infrequently, the various initiation and development innovations are distorted by various internal factors; conditions of the islamic business and financial industries itself. Whereas the supply of islamic financial industry can only be supported by the strong demand. The halal product industry will not grow without education and consumption.
