The Language Centre of the University of Murcia and the Steering Committee of ACLES 2021 are pleased to announce the XII International Conference ACLES. New Horizons for Language Centres: Languages and Technology (ACLES 2021), which will take place at the University of Mucia (Spain) from 16 to 18 September 2021. ACLES 2021 will be held as a hybrid conference including both face-to-face and online participation.
The cornerstone of the conference is the influence of technology on language teaching and assessment; more specifically, the different aspects of this influence and its relationship with the internationalisation of universities, both in Spain and in other countries, will be discussed. At a time when language training and certification at university level has had to face the consequences of the pandemic, language centres have remained strongly aligned with the institutions to which they belong, demonstrating great flexibility and capacity to adapt to change. ACLES 2021 aims to highlight how technology, which has been an integral part of language teaching and assessment for decades, has taken on an even greater role, providing avenues of action that facilitate access to learning for a greater number of learners. The conference is also intended as a forum in which to reflect on the weaknesses and strengths of the certification procedures used in Spanish universities, both with their own tests and with those designed by other institutions.
Submission Guidelines
The ACLES 2021 Steering Committee invites to submit paper proposals (20 minutes) in line with the central theme of the conference or related to one of the following thematic panels:
- Teaching and learning languages
- Assessment and certification
- Internationalisation and quality
- Mediation and language teaching and assessment
All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. Each participant can submit a maximum of two proposals in English, Spanish, French, Italian or German from May 4 until June 7 2021.
The proposals (a summary between 450 and 550 words excluding references) will be sent in a pdf format via EasyChair, indicating the selected panel. The summaries, which will include objectives, methodology and some results, will be used both for the review process and the proceedings of the conference, and they will follow these style guidelines:
- Title: center aligned, bold type, Times New Roman 14
- Keywords: centered aligned, italics, Times New Roman 12, below the title
- Abstract: justified, Times New Roman 12, 1.0 single space
- References: justified, Times New Roman 12, citation style chosen by the author
Each proposal can only be included in one single panel.
All Submissions will be peer reviewed and evaluated based on originality, technical and/or research depth, accuracy and relevance to conference theme and topics. The notification of acceptance will be communicated on June 30 2021.
