Call for Papers
American Bryological and Lichenological Society Annual Meeting
This year’s meeting will take place at Shawnee Lodge in West Portsmouth, OH. This venue offers an opportunity to explore calcareous and non-calcareous eastern forests and a chance for rich learning experiences and interactions among colleagues. The meeting will feature morning field trips, afternoon presentation sessions, and time in the evenings for socializing and specimen identification.
Please consider sharing your latest research and discoveries through a presented paper or your latest thoughts or questions in a lightning talk. All presentations will be in person. Suitable topics encompass all aspects of bryology and lichenology, including but not limited to conservation, ecology, education & outreach, morphology, physiology, and systematics. Presenters should submit a brief (400-word maximum) abstract of their work; accepted presentations will be compiled into a proceeding available online.
Abstracts should focus primarily on new work and not solely reviews of previous work and must report specific results, even if preliminary. Abstracts must be written in English, following standard grammar and punctuation rules. Names, institutional affiliations, and email for all authors should be included. Contributed talks may be scheduled any time on Friday or Saturday afternoon/evening (July 12-13). By submitting an abstract, the presenting author is indicating their availability during any of the possible time slots. Abstracts for lightning talks should be short. Abstracts are due by 5 April 2024 and should be submitted via the conference abstract submission site at the link below. You will need to set up a free account via EasyChair before submitting an abstract. https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=abls2024
Contributed oral presentations are scheduled for 20-minute timeslots. This timeslot includes 15 minutes for the presentation plus 5 minutes for questions. Lightning presentations will be scheduled for 5-minute timeslots which include 3 minutes to present and 2 minutes for questions. Time limits for presenters will be strictly enforced. Questions and discussion at the end of each presentation will be moderated by the session presider. The A.J. Sharp Award ($1000 for the winner) will be given at this meeting to the Best Student Presentation (only 20-minute talks will be considered). All presenters are expected to arrive at their session room at least 20 minutes in advance of their session, to check in with the session presider and transfer their presentation to the laptop in the room. Presenters should bring a copy of their presentations on a USB drive. Meeting rooms will have a dedicated LCD projector and computer on which talks can be uploaded before the session. A laser pointer will be provided.
More information about registration for this meeting will be announced soon.
