Introduction to 8th IconSWM 2018 [International conference on Sustainable Waste Management]
IconSWM is the biggest sustainable conference platform of ISWMAW [International Society of Waste Management, Air and Water] established in 2009 in India working for the betterment of Resource Circulation, Sustainable Waste Management and environment protection. The problem of waste management in India and many other countries is primarily lies in poor segregation of waste at source and its effective utilisation. The 8th IconSWM 2018 will deliberate on various issues related to innovation and implementation in sustainable waste management including segregation, collection, transportation, treatment technologies, policies & strategies, energy recovery, life cycle analysis, climate change, Circular Economy, 3R, research and business opportunities, International cooperation and liquid waste. 8th IconSWM 2018 is expected to be attended by more than 850 delegates from nearly 35 countries in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India. IconSWM-ISWMAW supports a number of research projects in India having the recent international collaborative research project on "Circular Economy" involving researchers from 25 countries. The 8th IconSWM 2018 will be held at the Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU), Guntur, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India. The 1st IconSWM 2009 was initiated in Netaji Indoor Stadium, Kolkata followed by 2nd IconSWM 2011 and 6th IconSWM 2016 in the same city at Jadavpur University campus. The IconSWM is held in different cities in India as an annual event of ISWMAW, namely, 3rd IconSWM 2012 in Infosys Campus, Mysore, Karnataka, the 4th IconSWM 2014 in Acharya N G Ranga Agricultural University, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, the 5th IconSWM 2015 in Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Karnataka and the 7th IconSWM 2017 attended by 461 delegates from 29 countries in PJTS Agricultural University, Hyderabad, Telangana.
IconSWM involves all the stakeholders, such as, the researchers, academia, urban local bodies, government departments and regulators, large-medium-small industries, resident welfare societies, bulk waste generators, waste management business sectors, funding agencies, international and national societies, international organisations and NGOs in the conference and its exhibition to create mass awareness on sustainable waste management. IconSWM has recently changed its name to International conference on Sustainable Waste Management from its former name, "International Conference on Solid Waste Management" to keeping the acronym same as IconSWM. The sustainable waste management including solid and liquid wastes generated in every sphere of life, namely, municipal solid wastes, construction and demolition wastes, hazardous wastes in industries, plastics wastes, electronic wastes, biomedical wastes and effluents etc.
The IconSWM 2018 will have Keynote and Plenary speeches by experts followed by parallel sessions by invited speakers in special sessions and speakers of contributed papers from academia, industry, government, ULBs, R&D Institutes and NGOs and Posters presentation out of contributed papers. The best papers will be awarded the "IconSWM-Springer Excellence Paper Award".
The competition for the "IconSWM Excellence Award" for effective SWM in ULBs, Industries and Residence Welfare Associations will be handed over in the Inaugural and Valedictory event. The participants have to submit the filled in application with requisite fees before 31.07.2018 for participation in the two-tier competition for the IconSWM Excellence Award.
Submission Guidelines
All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. The following paper categories are welcome:
- Full papers : Submit abstract in 300 words by 15th June 2018 and the Full paper within 4000 words by 31st July 2018 with maximum 8 pages A4 size, 11 font Times New Roman in English in MS Word, containing the title of paper, author/(s) name, address, phone/mobile, fax, e-mail id etc., references, online and also to the IconSWM Secretariat, e-mail: 8thiconswm.conference@gmail.com and iswmaw2017@gmail.com or online in the EasyChair. Papers will be peer-reviewed to ensure high quality & thematic consistency. Presentation: 12 minutes. The IconSWM 2018 will have Keynote and Plenary speeches by experts followed by parallel sessions by invited speakers and speakers of contributed papers from academia, industry, government, ULBs, R&D Institutes and NGOs and Posters presentation. One paid registered author can present two papers / Posters.
- Posters : Submit abstract in 300 words by 15th June 2018 and the Full paper within 4000 words by 31st July 2018 with maximum 8 pages A4 size, 11 font Times New Roman in English in MS Word, containing the title of paper, author/(s) name, address, phone/mobile, fax, e-mail id etc., references, online and also to the IconSWM Secretariat, e-mail: 8thiconswm.conference@gmail.com and iswmaw2017@gmail.com or online in the EasyChair. All accepted full papers for the poster with registration fees paid by 30/09/2018 will be published in the conference proceedings (CD version). Presentation: 1st through the 3rd day as per schedule. Publication
8th IconSWM 2018 proceedings will be published in CD and will be released at the inaugural programme on 22nd November 2018. The programme is expected to be attended by the HE Vice President of India and the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The conference proceedings will contain all the accepted papers who will pay the registration fees by 30.09.2018. Papers for Special Issues of International Journals, namely, a) Waste Management & Research, b) International Journal of Materials Cycles and Waste Management, c) International Journal of Energy Sector Management and d) Springer Book as Chapters will be selected. Communication is being carried out for the inclusion of more special issues of international journals.

The Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) was established in 1976, situated between the cities of Vijayawada and Guntur in Andhra Pradesh on Kolkata and Chennai National Highway (N.H-5) having its Campus is spread over an area of 270 acres. Quantitative expansion and qualitative improvements on various academic fronts have been made possible through the efforts of its dedicated faculty, an efficient team of supporting staff and high-quality students input. Teaching and Research are the two eyes and twin goals of the faculty in the University Colleges: i) College of Arts, Commerce & Law, ii) College of Sciences, iii) College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences and iv) University College of Engineering and Technology. National Assessment and Accreditation Council of India has accredited Acharya Nagarjuna University with ‘A’ Grade (3.08 CGPA).
