Under the theme of (5% within Frequency Range), the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) is preparing to organize the annual conference on 17 and 18 April 2017 in conjunction with the 43rd Arab Week of the Deaf celebrated by the entities working with people who are deaf or hard of hearing in the Arab world.
The notion behind the theme is based on the scientific fact that over 5% of the world’s population – 360 million people – has deafness or hard of hearing (32 million children). We hope for all of them to be within the hearing frequencies from 20 Hz up to 20,000 Hz.
We, as humans, seek to be vital building blocks in the society in which we live, and we would be happy to make our mark and feel appreciated by others around us. We have intertwined connections and relationships as well as means of communication that we have innovated and developed through millions of years, which have advanced civilizations and cultures.
Our ideas transfer via various methods, and our ways and languages vary. The waves of our voices, for example, are carried by different frequencies that convey our messages to the hearing of those who find them distinctive and appreciated. Those ideas grow and prosper revealing the concept of full integration and inclusion of individuals, and attainment of equality of opportunities for all; in culture and creativity, education, health, family, work, innovation and renovation. We share all of that to keep the cycle of knowledge going, aiming for all to be within the frequency range.
It is a practical and communal invitation that helps include the Deaf and hard of hearing within the frequency range alongside their peers who can hear.It aims to bring awareness to their rights and demands, and assert the respect of their special culture while working to include them in the society driven by equality of all rights with people who can hear.
