新时代. 新媒体. 新思路 / A New Era, New Media, and a New Silk Road
2019 China New Media Communication Association Annual Conference
2019 中国新媒体传播学年会
November 23-24, 2019 | Xiamen, China
Organized by Xiamen University School of Journalism and Communication
In the past half century, with the rapid development of communications and computing technologies, the world has undergone profound changes both in the means of human interaction at the micro level and in the economic, political, and cultural domains at the macro level. 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the invention of the Internet, the 25th anniversary of China's full-featured access to the global Internet, and the first year of the commercial launch of 5th generation wireless systems (5G). Once again, the process of media evolution faces a turning point. Technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and the Internet of Things have emerged while globalization confronts us with unprecedented challenges . How do we understand the opportunities and challenges that the new media technologies offer to humanity? How do we deal with the emerging problems of novel communications media? Do humans have to passively accept the “progress” of technologies, or can we choose and control the paths of technological evolution?
The 2019 China New Media Communication Association (CNMCA) Annual Conference, which will be held on November 23-24, 2019 in Xiamen, China, provides an opportunity for colleagues involved in the study of internet and new media to share their insights in research and practice. The theme—“A New Era, New Media, and a New Silk Road”—invites participation across disciplines. It reflects popular concerns about the social changes stimulated by emerging media, especially how different countries in Eurasia will be connected in the next stage of globalization.
The theme includes but is not limited to the following topics: computational journalism and artificial intelligence; communication and the governance of cyberspace; advertising and marketing communication innovation in the age of mobile internet; social choice and social implications of the changes of new media technologies; local practices and models of media convergence.
The co-organizer and sponsor of 2019 Meeting is Xiamen University’s School of Journalism and Communication. We invite proposals for papers of 15-minute duration [and sessions of three papers with a commentary]. We are unable to cover costs involved in international travel and accommodation in Xiamen; however, early career researchers presenting at the conference will be reimbursed for economy travel. Tea/coffee, lunch/dinner will be provided for free during the conference.
Since its foundation in 2008 as a branch of The Chinese Association for History of Journalism and Communication, the China New Media Communication Association (CNMCA) has been dedicated to the study of the Internet and emerging new media. Members of CNMCA come from both academia and media industries. CNMCA is the only research community in China focusing on the internet and new media studies from the perspective of journalism and communication. Its quarterly “China Computer-Mediated Communication Studies”, published by Nanjing University Press, is included in the China Social Sciences Citation Index.
