14th Annual Conference on Asian Studies
November 20–21, 2020
Department of Asian Studies, Palacký University Olomouc, Czech Republic
The Department of Asian Studies at Palacký University Olomouc is currently accepting individual paper and panel proposals for its 14th Annual Conference on Asian Studies to be held on November 20–21, 2020 in Olomouc, Czech Republic.
The general theme of the conference this year is Voiced and Voiceless in Asia. The relationship between ‘voice’ and ‘power’ is always a complex one. In the Asian context, a number of often closely intertwined issues come to mind, including such topics as the relationship between those that govern and those that are governed, the dominant social groups and minorities those that are promoted and those that are marginalized, the mainstream culture and the subcultures, the official and the non-official, the standard and the varieties, as well as a range of means that are used to maintain or subvert such relationships, assert or acquire power, give or suppress voice, etc.
We welcome papers that concern any region in Asia and approach the conference theme from a variety of perspectives, including linguistics, literature, arts, cultural studies, media studies, sociology, anthropology, history, philosophy, political science, international relations, economics, cultural geography, and other fields.
We invite researchers, teachers, and postgraduate students to submit their proposals for individual oral presentations as well as organized panels comprising of three to four oral papers dealing with a selected theme. In addition, there will also be a student poster session which will allow undergraduate (BA) as well as graduate (MA and PhD) students to present the results of their research.
The language of the conference is English.
